Flood Response Plan

The City of Windsor Heights Flood Response Plan was developed to help protect the community from the dangers of flash flooding at Walnut Creek and North Walnut Creek. The success of a flood response plan relies on the decisions and actions taken to protect lives and property. Three primary action areas are utilized:
1. Evacuation/Rescue/Relocation
2. Road & Trail Closures
3. Public Information

The objectives of this response plan include:
1. Assigning responsibility to individuals for actions that must be taken during a flood emergency and specifying times and places for those actions.
2. Setting forth lines of authority and describing how actions will be coordinated among different agencies or different jurisdictions.
3. Describe how people and property will be protected during a flood.
4. Identify the personnel, equipment, facilities, supplies, and other resources available for assigned duties.

The City plans to work with Alert Iowa to send out notifications to residents in flood prone areas when flooding risk occurs. Residents are encouraged to sign-up to receive Alert Iowa notifications. Residents are also encouraged to monitor this page during periods of flood risk.
