Parks and Recreation
Major changes are underway in our parks and recreation system. The City of Windsor Heights operates several community recreation areas throughout the City.
Colby Park has already seen major changes, with more to come. This spring the playground redevelopment will be completed and construction on the outdoor performance area will begin. Landscaping elements to the park will also be enhanced. We are also working toward our goal of constructing a community center at Colby Park. For a vision of the park's future, select here.
Throughout the entire year, Windsor Heights neighboring communities offer a variety of recreating programming ranging from computer classes for seniors to self defense classes for women. If you are interested in any of the classes or recreation programs, click here and visit one of the links to browse what our neighboring communities offer.
Colby Park is located at 69th and School Streets (behind Walmart). Colby Park is the signature Park for the City of Windsor Heights. The park is the location of the annual 4th of July Celebration, band concerts and other community gatherings.
Lions Park, on University Avenue between 65th & 66th Streets is currently being redeveloped.
The City also partners with area schools, who offer their playgrounds as community “pocket parks” .
Cowles School at 6401 College Avenue, has a track and open space for Frisbee, running, etc.
Clive Elementary at 1600 73rd Street has playground and picnic equipment facilities.
For information about any of these facilities, please contact City Hall at 279-3662.
Once at one of our parks one of the first things you notice is how clean the grounds are. It is the efforts of the Public Works Department that makes this happen.
