Public Open House on FEMA’s Flood Mapping Update
Monday, December 14, 2015 (regularly a 10/60 meeting)
Windsor Heights Community and Events Center, 6900 School Street
The City of Windsor Heights recently sent letters to all property owners identified as either being in the 1% annual chance (100-year floodplain) or the 0.2% annual chance (500-year floodplain) in the Preliminary Flood Risk Maps issued by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).
FEMA has prepared Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for Polk County and the City of Windsor Heights which will replace the maps that were last updated in 1992. The current FIRMs for the City of Windsor Heights do not accurately reflect today’s risk of flooding. As a result, the City of Windsor Heights FIRMs are being updated, with a final version expected in 2016. To view the Preliminary FIRM Maps, follow the links below.
The City will hold an open house for those property owners and any resident who may have questions regarding the Flood Insurance Rate Map and flood insurance requirements. Representatives from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will give an overview of the process and will be available to answer any questions.
