Automated Speed Enforcement

On December 14th, The City of Windsor Heights, in conjunction with the Windsor Heights Police Department, held a traffic safety forum in a “town hall” style meeting to discuss a proposal by the police department to introduce automated traffic enforcement systems into the city’s jurisdiction. A public presentation was given to discuss information and data to support the introduction of a fixed, section control system of automated speed enforcement on westbound I-235 between the 63rd Street and 73rd Street exits and deployment of a mobile speed unit to be utilized within the community. The police department has been studying recurring traffic safety problem areas within their jurisdiction for several months and will present solutions to addressing these on-going issues.

The Windsor Heights city council and city officials were in attendance for this presentation and to hear from residents on their questions and support or opposition to the proposal. Windsor Heights Police Chief Dennis McDaniel, Cedar Rapids Police Chief Greg Graham, Gatso USA President Andrew Noble, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7 liaison Dean Scott all spoke at this public event.
