Michael J. Loffredo II
I am honored to have been elected to represent the citizens of Windsor Heights on the City Council. Your confidence will not be taken lightly as I hope to represent all of our citizens with distinction.
Now, a little about me: I was reared in south Des Moines by Italian immigrant grandparents and first generation American parents. A family grocery business was my first work experience, and as a close knit family I was taught a strong work ethic, financial responsibility, integrity and respect. I have one daughter, Sara, who resides in Des Moines.
I was fortunate to have received an excellent education: Lincoln High School; Grandview University; Drake University: BS, Math & Science and MS, School Administration; The University of Iowa: PhD, Educational Administration.
My past and current community activities include: South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, North Des Moines Kiwanis, Southwest Des Moines Neighborhood Association, Des Moines Beautification Commitee (Mayor Robert D. Ray, Chair), Des Moines Administrators Association, Officer First American Bank, Knights of Columbus, St Theresa Catholic Church, and Society of Italian Americans.
My priorities as a council member include: re-build and/or repair our infrastructure -- roads and sanitary sewer lines; provide an open and transparent government by being available, an active listener and engage in mutually respectful dialogue; promote economic development; advocate for greater fiscal responsibility; promote consensus building among council members and reconsider the advantages and disadvantages of the 25 mph speed limit and radar cameras along University Avenue.
Thereafter, I enjoyed two distinct professions. Namely, 35 years as an educator -- teacher, counselor, central office administrator and principal; and five years as a bank officer and financial planner. Finally, I currently work occasionally at Des Moines University in the Standardized Patient Assessment Lab.
